Its magic

In the heart of the state, Maní, one of the oldest towns, is preserved; its name in Mayan language means "Place where everything happened". To walk through its streets is to encounter a living community that murmurs in its native language and proudly carries the colors and designs that give it its identity. It is to see the women embroidering and cooking, the children riding bicycles, the elders resting under the shade of trees. It is the beginning of the Mayan reunion.

The reason

Its history and living Mayan culture.

  • When the Spaniards arrived, Maní was one of the three most important pre-Hispanic capitals in the region.
  • The Convent of San Miguel Arcángel with its open chapel and Indian school became one of the most outstanding convent complexes in the Yucatan peninsula.
  • Poc Chuc, considered the most delicious in the state, is cooked here.
  • The artisan embroiderers still preserve the X'manikté technique, the oldest embroidery technique in Yucatán and in danger of extinction.
